Shopping at Chinatown Street Market

Chinatown Heritage Centre  

Chinatown Heritage Centre is where you learn about the struggles and journeys of the immigrants and their freedom. The objects dating back to the 18th century within the museum gives you a glimpse of the lifestyle of the early settlers. You can also buy souvenirs from the local designers in the shops at the museum.

Singapore City Gallery  

If you are an art lover, this is the best place for you to visit in Chinatown. 

It is a 3-storey gallery featuring replicas of Singapore’s Central Region. The models showcase the transformation of the city over the years along with its futuristic plans. The exhibits here are interactive and an immersive experience for the visitors.

Club Street – Taste Different Wines 

Club Street is lined with several bars and restaurants that you'd love spoiling yourself. If you are a wine lover, this is a haven for you as it has trendy wine bars. Explore various wine flavours and the food that complement its taste. Club Street is one perfect place to experience nightlife in Singapore.

Thian Hock Keng Temple  

Chinatown has a lot of historic temples influenced by various cultures which one can visit. One of the places to visit in Chinatown is Thian Hock Keng Temple. It is one of the oldest temples of the Chinese in Singapore. The temple is built without nails and has stunning architecture. Head here to explore the architecture and the carvings on the walls and roofs of this temple.

Sri Mariamman Temple 

Sri Mariamman Temple, constructed in 19th Century by Southern Indians is the first Hindu temple in Singapore. It is one of the famous worship places in Chinatown. The temple is home to the goddess Mariamman. The Dravidian temple style architecture, a gopuram (entrance tower), and ornate sculptures from Hindu mythology and culture. Visit the temple in the evening to see their daily Hindu rituals. 

 

NUS Baba House – The Peranakan History 

NUS Baba House is a magnificent heritage house that once belonged to the Wee family of the Peranakan community. The Peranakans go way back to the 15th century when the first Chinese immigrants settled in the Malay Islands. 

The House belonged to a shipping tycoon, Mr. Wee Lin. It showcases the lifestyle and culture of the Peranakan community of Singapore at the time. 

A visit to NUS Baba House is a must to learn the history of the Peranakans community.

Masjid Jamae 

This mesmerising light green mosque on South Bridge Road in the central Chinatown district is a real head-turner, with two minarets erected up to the sky. Established in 1826, it is one of Singapore’s old mosques erected by Tamil Muslims. The mosque opens daily for Muslim and non-Muslim visitors to pay their respects. Remember to dress decently, and you’ll also be provided with a blue robe on arrival and asked to remove your shoes.  

 

G-Max Reverse Bungy – Indulge In Adventure 

Chinatown is not all about the temples, G-Max Reverse Bungy is a famous place for some adventure in Singapore. This giant bungee ride involves a 3-seater carriage attached to two tall towers by elastic ropes on either side. Feel the adrenaline rush while you take this adventurous thrilling ride.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple 

The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is a four-storey attraction recently added in Chinatown, Singapore. This exquisite structure houses the Sacred Buddha Tooth Relic. The solid gold Stupa where the relic is kept is the main highlight of this temple. 

One can attend daily religious rituals and ceremonies.
